Sanju Samson has loads of potential on his shoulders owing to which he has gotten a lot of support from a number of former cricketers. Gautam Gambhir, who bid adieu to the sport in December 2018, even wished for him to play the 2019 World Cup after his century in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Samson got a ton versus the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) while facing a strong attack.
The 24-year-old is currently plying his trade for Kerala in the 2019-20 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He came into the tournament on the backs of a sparking 91 for India A in the One Day series versus South Africa A in Trivandrum. In the first five games, he got into the double figures every time with top scores of 67, 36 and 48, but couldn’t convert them into something substantial.
Samson shows his class and power
However, he brought forth his A-game in the encounter against Goa in Alur. Samson wreaked absolute havoc with a double century that helped his team post 377 for three after electing to bat first. Kerala lost skipper Robin Uthappa and Vishnu Vinod early and were reduced to 31 for two in 7.5 overs. The Goa bowlers would wish to forget what panned out thereafter at the venue.
Samson was joined by Sachin Baby and the duo put on a stunning 338 runs in 41.2 overs. Samson was the more attacking of the two and he piled on 212 runs off a mere 129 balls. His knock was laced with 21 fours and as many as 10 sixes. The Goa bowlers tried their hearts out, but couldn’t find a way for stopping the belligerent batter. There was no stopping Sanju Samson on the day.
At the other end, Baby lent Samson apt support. The left-handed batsman got 127 runs off 135 balls with the help of seven fours and four hits over the ropes. In the meantime, with Rishabh Pant still straining to show consistency for Team India, Samson’s ton could bring him in the national selectors’ radar. The netizens were delighted after Samson’s mind-boggling knock versus Goa.
