Of late, there have been several talks about Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and his fitness. Many have criticised him for not being in shape and even opined that it has affected his batting as well as wicket-keeping. However, the 32-year-old gave a stunning reply to one and all with some unbelievable glovework in the ongoing league game against New Zealand. Kane Williamson won the toss and under overcast conditions decided to bat first.
The Kiwis were in trouble early on after losing the wickets of Martin Guptill and Colin Munro. Williamson and Ross Taylor joined hands in an attempt to put things back on track. However, the ball was swinging and the latter didn’t seem to be at complete ease. He seemed to be troubled with the lateral movement and thus tried to make to minute adjustment while facing Shaheen Shah Afridi.
What a grab, Sarfaraz Ahmed!
Ross Taylor slightly shuffled across to his off-stump to negate the movement. Shaheen Afridi, who was tasked to bowl the 9th over of the innings made notice of this. He put the ball a little further away on the final delivery of the over and the New Zealand number four didn’t seem to have the right balance to pull that sort of a shot off.
Taylor tried to play inside the line of the delivery, but it was too good to find a thick outside edge. For a moment, it seemed to be going between the wicketkeeper and the man standing at almost second slip. However, Sarfaraz reacted in a split second diving to his right. Since the ball was travelling at a great pace, he had to go with only one hand and he didn’t make a mistake.
He comfortably pouched the catch bringing immense delight to the Pakistan camp. The skipper never let his eyes off the ball and it was great to watch. The entire team was pumped with everyone running up to Sarfaraz Ahmed in sheer joy and happiness. Twitterati was left in absolute awe of this catch. They couldn’t believe their eyes and were all over the social media platform. The fans felt that this was the perfect way Sarfaraz could have answered his critics.
Here is how Twitterati reacted to Sarfaraz Ahmed’s catch:
