The Dhaka Dynamites lost against Rajshahi Kings in their last match and the loss broke their four-match winning streak. Nevertheless, they came back and thumped Sylhet Sixers at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium by six wickets to get back their winning momentum. The Sixers, captained by Australian star David Warner, lost their fourth match out of six and remains to be at the bottom half of the points table.

Warner steps up yet again

Sylhet Sixers won the toss and opted to bat first. Liton Das and Sabbir Rahman took the opposition bowling by the scruff of its neck. The duo cobbled together a stand of 38 for the first wicket but perished in successive balls to Shakib and Andre Russell. Thereafter, Afif Hossain and skipper Warner added 40 runs in 33 balls. Fast bowler Andrew Birch broke the stand in the 11th over.

Alok Kapali and Nicholas Pooran couldn’t make much of an impact as they fell prey to Rubel Hossain and Sunil Narine respectively. At the other end, Warner showed maturity and notched his second BPL half-century. The 32-year-old scored 63 from 43 balls with eight fours and a six.

Shakib got rid of the left-hander in the 19th over. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper Jaker Ali also showed intent to score 25 from 18 balls. Sylhet Sixers got themselves up to 158 in 20 overs. Birch was the Dynamites’ most successful bowler, having picked up three crucial wickets.

Sunil Narine started the run-chase with a few big shots but was removed by Taskin Ahmed. His partner Mizanur Rahman, who replaced Hazratullah Zazai, got out for one. Rony Talukdar played a couple of decent shots, however, Sandeep Lamichhane cleaned him up. Skipper Shakib and Afghan youngster Darwish Rasooli put on 75 runs for the fourth wicket to bring Dhaka back into contention for a victory.

Shakib took on part-timer Alok Kapali and didn’t allow the Sixers to get a grip on the match. The Jessore-born brought up a half-century and he remained not out on 63 from 43 balls with eight fours and one four. Rasooli became Mohammad Irfan’s second victim. Russell came in and chipped in with a bludgeoning 40 from 21 balls. His knock was laced with two fours and four colossal hits into the stands.
