Phew! It was a game where momentum was enjoying a rollercoaster ride. However, Multan Sultans, defending 174, kept their nerves and walked away with a six-run win. The game went right down to the wire as both teams were equally determined to cross the line. Despite losing regular wickets, the Gladiators somehow managed to keep up with the scoring rate. However, David Willey successfully defended seven runs in the final over as the Sultans recorded their second win on the trot in PSL 2022.

Earlier in the game, Quetta Gladiators won the toss and opted to bowl at the National Stadium in Karachi. The decision seemed spot-on as Multan Sultans skipper Mohammad Rizwan bagged a two-ball duck. As the wicketkeeper-batter has been on a roll lately, his early departure was a massive setback for the defending champions. Nevertheless, his opening partner Shan Masood was a man on a mission.

Shan Masood paced his knock to perfection

He formed substantial partnerships with Sohaib Maqsood and Rilee Rossouw as the Sultans found themselves back in the hunt. Masood paced his knock to perfection as after settling his feet, the southpaw went for the big hits. He found a potent partner in Tim David as the duo gathered some quick runs towards the end. Masood even looked set to smash a ton but Mohammad Hasnain dismissed him for 88 in the penultimate over.

Nevertheless, his efforts took Sultans to 174/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Gladiators’ chase didn’t start off well as the in-form Will Smeed, who smashed a fiery 97 few nights ago, perished for just three runs. While Ahsan Ali did look impressive early on, he could only manage 24 runs as Gladiators found themselves in a spot of bother.  Nevertheless, Ben Duckett joined forces with skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and the duo steadied the ship with a 78-run stand for the third wicket.

However, Imran Tahir’s sensational spell in the middle overs meant both set batters perished in quick succession. At 108/6 in 14.1 overs, the Gladiators looked in all sorts of trouble. However, Iftikar Ahmed’s fiery cameo gave them a glimmer of hope. The dasher played some delightful shots as the game was back in the balance.

While Iftikar got out for a 13-ball 30, James Faulkner and Sohail Tanvir also gathered some quick runs as the equation came down to Gladiators needing seven runs off the final over. However, David Willey kept his calm as the Quetta-based side got bundled out for 168, losing the game by six runs.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Multan Sultans’ thrilling win:
