Australia resumed Day 2 from their overnight score of 209/4. England managed to get a really early breakthrough as Peter Handscomb was dismissed LBW by Stuart Broad. With Australia just one wicket shy of exposing their tail, England would’ve really fancied their chances.
However, what followed was an enthralling partnership between Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine. For someone whose selection has been under the scanner, Tim Paine scored a crucial fifty. He got out in the first session as Australia managed to cross the 300 mark.
Mitchell Starc got out early in the second session as Australia were reduced to 311/7. However what followed was some sensational batting by Shaun Marsh. Repaying the faith of selectors, The right handed batsman registered his first ever Ashes century.
Pat Cummins provided him ample support with 40 odd runs. The duo irritated the England bowling lineup with a 99 run partnership for the eighth wicket. Australia continued to bat for some time before declaring their innings at 442/8. Shaun Marsh stayed not out at 126.
Craig Overton was amongst the pick of English bowlers with three wickets. Stuart Broad also managed to get a couple of wickets. James Anderson and Chris Woakes also managed to get a wicket each.
As for England, they lost Mark Stoneman early. Mitchell Starc got the breakthrough as he seemed ferocious in his spell. England were 29/1 before bad light stopped play. There was an inspection before the umpires decided to call it a day. England currently trail by 413 runs with Alastair Cook and James Vince at the crease.
Twitter had quite splendid reactions to different facets of the game today. Right from lauding Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine to trolling the duo of Anderson and Broad, right from lauding Mitchell Starc to trolling Joe Root, here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions from Day 3.

Anderson has had lots to say but has backed very little of it up. Has bowled pretty poorly & hasn't done the job needed for his captain & team. Broad on the other hand is having a real crack #Ashes

That was peak arsehattery.

Love @root66 & think he will develop into a very good captain.
But he's tossed the #Ashes away with his terrible decision to bowl first.
