Twitter Reactions: Short-McDermott's 74-run partnership guides Hobart Hurricanes to the win in BBL 2019-20

Hobart Hurricanes locked horns with Melbourne Renegades at Bellerive Oval in Hobart. It turned out to be a competitive match that went to the last over. However, in the end, it was won by Hurricanes by seven wickets on the back of some brilliant knocks played by D’arcy Short and Ben McDermott. Now, they have moved up the ladder in Big Bash League points table to the third position with two wins in their three games.
At the starting, Renegades won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the decision didn’t go into their favour as they lost there in form opener Sam Harper on the third delivery of the innings. He tried to go big over the leg side but got imbalanced. He failed to time his stroke well enough and was caught by Caleb Jewell at deep square off James Faulkner.

However, after suffering a big blow at the start of the innings, Aaron Finch (50 runs off 37 balls) and Shaun Marsh (37 runs off 30 balls) stitched a brilliant partnership of 74 runs for the 2nd wicket in order to help their side in taking a lead over the match. However, Hurricanes fast bowler Nathan Ellis broke the partnership as he dismissed Marsh.
Later on, Aaron Finch was also dismissed after scoring his half-century and Renegades were left struggling as none of the other batsmen could click a good knock with the bat. Moreover, they failed to play a total of 20 overs and were dismissed at a score of 147 runs in 19.1 overs.
The fast bowling unit of Hurricanes did a commendable job as Riley Meredith, James Faulkner and Nathan Ellis took three wickets each that restricted Renegades on a nominal total on the scoreboard.
Coming onto the chase, Hurricanes got off to a poor possible start as they lost their opener Simon Milenko and Caleb Jewell in the third over of the match. And, it looked like Renegades had taken firmly taken a big lead in the match but that was not the case. D’arcy Short (60 runs off 45 balls) and Ben McDermott (51 runs off 48 balls) had some other plans, who smashed the bowlers all across the park. The duo stitched a brilliant partnership of 74 runs and took the match away from the reach of Melbourne Renegades at Bellerive Oval.
However, Cameron Boyce dismissed Short out at his individual score of 60, But till then, it was very late as the next batsman David Miller played a small cameo of 25 runs off just 15 balls with two big sixes helped Hurricane in signing off the match as a winning team, who chased down the target of 148 runs in 19.1 overs at a loss of 3 wickets. However, Riley Meredith was given Man of The Match for bowling a brilliant spell as he registered bowling figures of 3/26.
After the match, the fans were elated with the performances of Hobart Hurricanes and started congratulating them on social media platform for their convincing win over Melbourne Renegade.
