India beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the second T20I at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on February 26 to register a third consecutive series win in the shortest format. Meanwhile, this is also the Men In Blue’s fourth straight home limited-overs series win ever since Rohit Sharma’s appointment as the full-time captain. Having already sealed the series, the hosts would now be eyeing a whitewash in the dead-rubber third game at the same venue on February 27.
India looked in all sorts of trouble after early dismissals of in-form openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan but, Kolkata Knight Riders’ new recruit and skipper Shreyas Iyer came to the rescue and toyed around with the Sri Lankan bowlers. The limited-overs specialist was also involved in an 84-run stand for the third wicket with Sanju Samson who also played an impactful knock after being recalled into the Indian side for this series.
Earlier, the coin landed in Rohit Sharma’s favor and he decided to bowl first. Sri Lanka were reduced to 76/3 after 11 overs but, Pathum Nissanka who was dismissed for a golden duck in the first game rediscovered his rhythm and played a superb knock. He scored 75 runs off 53 deliveries before being sent back on the final ball of the penultimate over. Skipper Dasun Shanaka finished the innings in style for the visitors by clobbering medium-pacer Harshal Patel for 23 runs in the final over to finish at 183/5 from their 20 overs.
Here is how Twitter reacted after India’s victory
Shreyas Iyer has done what he could when he got the chance at number 3. Consistency, strike rate and approach lot of things to like. #INDvSL

Sanju Samson has the talent. At times that talent is his undoing. A very good T20 player, all he needs is the leadership to nurture him @IamSanjuSamson #IndvSL

Giving players confidence is what Rohit and his captaincy is all about! He gave Sanju Samson a lot of praise before the series and today his batting blossomed! MSD once said “the captain is only as good as his team!” Rohit is that captain! #INDvSL #Cricket

Not a slog from Jadeja, just classy shots, and he finishes with 45(18). Absolutely loved the way Shreyas Iyer played the field. That is 2 in 2 now that he has played like this.

In reply, the hosts were under pressure straightaway losing captain Rohit for just one in the very first over. His opening partner Ishan Kishan did manage a couple of boundaries before being dismissed in the final over of the Powerplay and that is when Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson steadied the Indian ship. Samson looked to make a statement having struck Lahiru Kumara for three sixes and a boundary in the 13th over before being caught by Binura Fernando at slips off the final delivery scoring 39 runs off 25 balls.
Iyer was then joined by Ravindra Jadeja who played a great supporting role with a quickfire 17-ball 41. Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 74 off 44 deliveries as the Men In Blue got past the finish line by seven wickets in the 18th over.
