India convincingly got the better of Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I by six wickets at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on February 27 and by the virtue of this win, the Men In Blue registered a third consecutive whitewash in the shortest format. Meanwhile, this is also the Indian team’s fourth successive home bilateral limited-overs series triumph under Rohit Sharma. Rohit has now led India to 17 victories from 18 T20Is at home and at the same time, India have won 12 straight games in this format dating back to the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in November last year.
Shreyas Iyer, who was adjudged the Man of the Match in the last game for his match-winning knock of an unbeaten 74 runs off 44 deliveries was the star for the hosts with the bat and made his presence felt once again during the run chase by absorbing the pressure, especially after the fall of skipper Rohit Sharma’s wicket early on.
Shreyas Iyer’s brilliance helps India register a historic T20I series whitewash
Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sri Lanka found themselves in a spot of bother having lost their top-order cheaply as the scorecard read 29/4 in the ninth over before losing half their side for 60 runs. Skipper Dasun Shanaka then took matters into his own hands and went after the Indian bowlers. He played a spectacular knock of an unbeaten 74 off just 38 deliveries including nine boundaries and two maximums at a strike rate of 194.7 and was involved in an 86-run stand with Chamika Karunaratne (12*) as the Lankans posted a respectable total of 146/5 from their 20 overs.

Most runs for India in a T20I series without being dismissed:
204 – Shreyas Iyer v SL, 2022
110 – KL Rahul v WI, 2016
89 – Manish Pandey v NZ, 2020
88 – Rohit Sharma in 2007 World Cup
85 – Dinesh Karthik in 2018 Nidahas Trophy#INDvSL— Kausthub Gudipati (@kaustats) February 27, 2022
While he batted at three, Shreyas Iyerβs strike rates and impact were exactly what the team would need at four or five. Both Sky and Iyer have literally made βfullβ use of the opportunities. #INDvSL

In reply, India lost captain Rohit Sharma cheaply with just five runs to his name in the second over before Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson carried out the rescue act with a 45-run stand for the second wicket. Nonetheless, Iyer continued to soldier on from one end despite losing Samson, Deepak Hooda, and Venkatesh Iyer from the other end.
In the end, it was an action replay of the second T20I as Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja successfully got India past the finish line with more than three overs to spare. Iyer remained unbeaten on 73 runs off 45 deliveries.
