Indian cricket has recently been hit by a minor controversy as Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been sent home from Australia following their controversial remarks in the television show Koffee With Karan, aired on last Sunday. However, the ruckus opened up the gates for teen sensation Shubman Gill, who is slated to join the squad in New Zealand for the ODI and T20I series.
The 19-year-old has been in red-hot form in the last one year. After making his first-class debut in November 2017, he was included in the Indian squad for the U19 World Cup in New Zealand under the leadership of Prithvi Shaw, who has already made his debut for the national team against the Windies. The Fazilka-born was outstanding in the tournament and was unstoppable.
Shubman Gill gets maiden national call-up
The Fazilka-born became the second-highest run-scorer in the 50-overs event, having scored 372 runs in six matches at an incredible average of 372. His top score of 102 not out came against Pakistan in the semi-final. Thereafter, the Young Turk was picked to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) where he didn’t flatter to deceive by any means.
Moreover, Gill broke into the India ‘A’ team. In the erstwhile edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Shubman churned out 418 runs at an average of 59.71. Furthermore, he has simply been outstanding in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, representing Punjab, where he has notched a mammoth 728 runs in five matches at a gigantic average of 104 and a jaw-dropping strike-rate of 78.61.
He has scored a couple of centuries and four half-centuries. His highest score of 268 came against Tamil Nadu at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. His other century came against Hyderabad in the very next match of the tournament. In the meantime, the users on Twitter couldn’t stop heaping praises on the youngster. Some of them from the cricketing fraternity also lauded the young man.

If the news that Shubman Gill is selected for India is true; it’s an excellent move. He is a special talent and it is prudent that he jumps the long queue of excellent young batsmen while he is in good form.

Delighted for Shubman Gill, an excellent pick. Is an opener in every sense, hits them crisp, plays fearlessly and has immense belief.

Many of my Indian followers have been raving about the youngster Shubman Gill. He's been named as a replacement for KL Rahul on the New Zealand leg of India's Antipodean tour. Could he debut before the World Cup? #AUSvIND #NZvIND

1.20 AM. Grown people on TL going crazy over a 20-year-old's selection with only 3-4 months to the World Cup.
Only Shubman Gill can make this possible. Irrespective of how this turns out, the selection is commendable – both bold and refreshing.

So excited for #ShubmanGill. Have always said that he's much more impressive than Prithvi Shaw. This may just end up as being a tour where he only ferries drinks, but it's a matter of time before he's making runs at the highest level.

What can happen in one year ?
Jan 2018 – Saw #ShubmanGill at Chd. airport with his parents. Carrying huge Indian kit, nobody could recognise he was going for U-19 WC.
One year later – He is playing for India. He will be giving autographs this time around at Chd airport. pic.twitter.com/0ALsQVFHN6

The two match ban for KL Rahul has made way for KKR player Shubhman Gill to get a call from Indian team. What a true friend Karan Johar is for ShahRukh Khan.#ShubmanGill
