In the penultimate ODI of the series, the hosts continued to have a dominant edge over the Australians and have extended their lead in the series to 4-0 and are just one short of completing what would be a historic clean sweep in the 50 overs series. Chasing 168 South Africa didn’t have the best of the starts but skipper Faf du Plessis grabbed the steering of the inning and guided them to a comfortable win in the end.

Earlier Australian skipper Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bat first at the St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth. South African pacer Kyle Abbott was right away on the money and had both the Aussie openers Aaron Finch and David Warner on their way back in the first and third over of the game respectively. Smith tried but fell to chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi for 21, George Bailey failed as well and Travis Head was trapped for a duck by Shamsi.

It was then that all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade got together and first controlled the damage and then initiated the recovery. Both Marsh and Wade scored half centuries 50 and 52 respectively and helped Australia post 167/10 in 36.4 overs.

Though the track was a bit tricky it was never going to be enough against the confident South African batting lineup that had very recently chased down a 350+ target. The Aussies had a decent start as young fast bowler Chris Tremain struck twice to remove both the Protea openers. In walked Faf and he was determined to not let the opportunity go by. His half century and useful contributions from JP Duminy and Rilee Rossouw took them home in 35.3 overs with 6 wickets in hand.
