Another day and another win for Sydney Sixers! They have made a habit of it. Haven’t they? Despite suffering a batting collapse against Hobart Hurricanes, the defending Big Bash League (BBL) champions bounced back and walked away with a 14-run win. It was indeed a terrific victory for the Sixers as the low-scoring affair went right down to the wire. In fact, Peter Handscomb once looked all set to take his side over the line. His efforts, however, eventually went in vain.

Earlier in the game, Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and opted to bowl at the Aurora Stadium in Launceston. The decision seemed spot-on at first as the Sixers suffered a batting collapse. Hero of the last game, Josh Philippe scored four runs while his opening partner James Vince made a 12-ball 13. In fact, the defending champions were reeling at 39/5 at one stage and looked in all sorts of trouble.

However, skipper Moises Henriques came to the party once again and played a stellar knock. With wickets falling at the other end, the 34-year-old was watchful at the start. However, he changed gears as the proceedings went on. The dasher eventually scored 73 off 48 deliveries as the Sixers slammed 144/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Notably,  Henriques was well supported by Tom Curran, who scored 27 off 21 deliveries.

Although the target seemed a mediocre one, Hurricanes’ chase wasn’t really smooth. Skipper Matthew Wade and D Arcy Short did manage to add 38 runs for the first wicket but the scoring rate was on the lower side. Things got worse for the Hobart-based side as they suffered a middle-order collapse. Hayden Kerr and Tom Curra delivered stellar spells as the reigning champions gained command.

At 78/5, the Hurricanes were struggling big time. However, Peter Handscomb didn’t put his guards down and kept his side in the hunt. Despite not receiving much support from the other end, the right-handed batter carried on the innings and kept his side interested. However, the task proved to be too much for him as Handscomb could only take the Hurricanes to 130/8.

Handscomb got on the penultimate ball of the game for a 31-ball 47. Meanwhile, Sixers have now won their first two games while the Hurricanes start their campaign on a losing note.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterverse reacted to Sydney Sixers’ triumph:
