Sri Lanka thumped Bangladesh in the first Test by 259 runs. There were some superb performances in the Test match, right from Kusal Mendis’ massive century to Rangana Herath’s fantastic five-wicket haul. That said, this Test match did not lack any drama as well.

The game never slipped away from Sri Lanka but Bangladesh were fighting really hard and one of those fighters was the young opener, Soumya Sarkar. He scored half-centuries in both the innings of the first Test giving Bangladesh good starts on both the occasions.

However, he was trolled tremendously for a howler he committed while batting in the second innings. He was batting well on 53 of just 49 deliveries when he did something which had never happened before. The Decision Review System (DRS) is there if umpire commits a mistake but Soumya Sarkar was clean bowled and even then this young man decided to go upstairs.

Bangladesh were cruising towards a humongous target of 457 when this young lad was beaten fairly by the Sri Lankan bowler Asela Gunaratne. There was a lot of confusion going around as Marais Erasmus did not lift his finger and the Sri Lankans were appealing not being aware of Sarkar being clean bowled. The umpire after a long pause gave him out to which the Bangladeshi batsman who looked bamboozled went for a review.

The on-field umpires and the batsmen were waiting for the third umpire’s decision on the review when they realized that Sarkar was cleaned up by the newcomer Asela Gunaratne. This Test match also saw a Bangladeshi bowler celebrating after getting hit for a six. Only to realise it later that the fielder had touched the boundary line.

Such incidents rarely take place on the cricket field but when they do Twitter makes sure it is remembered for a long time. Here are some of the tweets that absolutely destroyed the young batsman.
