The 18th match of the T20 World Cup 2021 saw the day of the light between South Africa and West Indies wherein both nations looked forward to making a mark owing to their dismal opener in the tournament. However, South Africa won the clash in a clinical manner by eight wickets owing to classy batting by the middle order. Winning the toss in Dubai, South Africa invited the opposite side to come up with the willows first.
Though they got a great start due to Evin Lewis’ heroics at the top as he smashed 56 runs off 35 balls, they failed to convert it into a shining total. Lewis’s partner Lendl Simmons marked his entry back to the pavilion after adding just 16 runs. The middle order of West Indies didn’t take any onus to rise on the occasion barring skipper Kieron Pollard who contributed a cameo of 26 runs to push West Indies post 143 runs on the board.
Dwaine Pretorius picked three wickets while in form Anrich Nortje continued his rich form as he picked two wickets while refusing to leak many runs by conceding at 3.50. When South Africa came up to chase, Temba Bavuma walked up with newly roped Reeza Hendricks. Hendricks made good use of the opportunity by adding 39 runs from his bat.
Here is how Twitter reacted to South Africa’s clinical win
Played proteas.. bowling unit good and markram and rassie steady. Windies upfront cost them in the end.. partnerships with bat and ball always key. #basics

I’m very sure the Windies team would be very disappointed with their batting effort. RATHER MEEK. Their bowling is not as potent .
They need the batters to raise their game to stay in the tournament #CricketTwitter #Worldcup2021 #WIvSA— DK (@DineshKarthik) October 26, 2021
I don’t like these soft dismissals! Shimron clearly took a clean catch, unlike the lack of solid evidence when Pollard was given out caught. #unfair#lackingconsistency#WIvSA #T20WorldCup

Rvd held his nerve and Markram played a solid innings as well, does this mean Westindies are almost out? #WIvSA

Surely it’s down to the individual to decide whether he or she wants to be involved in any movement … A Cricket board should request players to do it but if that individual decides they don’t want too it should not stop them playing the game of Cricket … #T20WorldCup #DeKock

That what happens when you can’t rotate the strike and think you can hit yourself out of trouble on a slowish deck… 25 runs short windies.

Sad to see defending champions almost out of the #T20WorldCup . And it also will bring an end to an extraordinary era of #Caribbean cricket in T20 format… #WestIndies #SAvsWI

I think Windies chances to qualify in to the semis are less as they lost their 2 matches in the super 12 #Windies #SAvsWI #T20WorldCup

With a Batting Impact of -19.9, Lendl Simmons' innings today is the worst of the tournament so far according to the Match Impact model. It's the 15th lowest Batting Impact for any innings at any T20 World Cup. #T20WorldCup #SAvWI #SAvsWI #WIvSA #T20WorldCup21

Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram made their bats talk as they did wonders for the team in the middle. While Dussen smashed 43 off 51 balls, Markram was quick and fiery with his knock by smashing 51 off 22 balls. Akeal Hosein picked one wicket for West Indies while Dwayne Bravo conceded5.75 at an impressive
Apart from the game, the major highlight of the clash turned out to be star cricketer Quinton de Kock’s pull-out at the 11th hour. Ahead of South Africa’s game against West Indies, CSA asked its players to take a knee in order to mark their solidarity for the Black Lives Matter moment. However, De Kock chose to refrain from the event and suddenly pulled out of the entire game. It remains to be seen if he will continue his journey forward in T20 World Cup 2021.
