Twitter Reactions: South Africa thump Zimbabwe to comprehensively pocket T20I series
JP Duminy and Heinrich Klaasen’s 44-run partnership fizzled out the enthusiasm from Zimbabwe.
South Africa won their second T20I against Zimbabwe by six wickets to bag the series 2-0 with one match remaining. The Senwes Park in Potchefstroom was a witness to another one-sided encounter as Hamilton Masakadza and Co were outplayed in all three departments by the hosts. The third and final match is scheduled to be played day after tomorrow in Benoni.
Wickets push Zimbabwe back
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first and the decision didn’t quite work out as Dane Paterson nipped out Solomon Mire in the second over. Hamilton Masakadza scorched a few boundaries before falling prey to Robert Frylinck, who also got rid of Tarisai Musakanda for a five-ball duck. Brendan Taylor scored 29 runs but took 35 deliveries to score them.
He was the fourth wicket to fall in the 13th over. Left-handed batsman Sean Williams took it upon himself and carted the Proteas bowling to notch 41 runs with the help of a couple of boundaries and three sixes. Dane Paterson nipped him out in the 16th over after which Zimbabwe huffed and puffed to 132/7 in their 20 overs. Tendai Chisoro scored a brisk 14 runs.
South Africa bag series
Rassie van der Dussen and Quinton de Kock commenced the run-chase and put together 23 runs in 19 balls. The stand was broken by Christopher Mpofu with the wicket of van der Dussen. De Kock played some strokes to inject impetus into the innings. The left-handed batsman scored 26 runs following which leg-break bowler Brandon Mavuta accounted for his wicket.
In the next over, Williams rattled Faf du Plessis’ woodwork and the visiting team threatened to make a comeback. However, JP Duminy and Heinrich Klaasen’s 44-run partnership fizzled out the enthusiasm from Zimbabwe. Williams got rid of the latter for 22 runs, but by then the writing was on the walls for the visitors. The Proteas traced the target with four overs to spare.
