Twitter Reactions: South Africa wrap up the game in a single session on Day 5
Faf du Plessis was delighted with the way his bowlers bowled and lauded their effort while Mushfiqur felt the need for theirs to improve.
The first Test match at Potchefstroom ended with South Africa winning the game by 333 runs. The Bangladesh batsmen failed to bat throughout the day as bowlers Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada wreak havoc on the visiting team on Day 5. The match ended in the first session itself.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh resumed from their overnight score of 49/3. They had already lost Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque for ducks on Day 4. Thus, batsmen like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah were the only hope for Bangladesh to save the Test match.
However, skipper Mushfiqur was caught at first slip by Hashim Amla as Rabada drew his first blood in the innings. In the absence of Morne Morkel, Rabada fostered the bowling lineup really well as he was in the middle of an exceptional spell. He got the better of Mahmudullah and Liton Das in successive over to leave the Bangla team reeling at 67/6.
That’s when Keshav Maharaj joined the party as he trapped Sabbir Rahman in front of the stumps. He got the better of Taskin Ahmed in the next over as Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shafiul Islam ended up getting run out as Bangladesh were reduced to 75/9.
Mehidy Hasan tried to hang along but Mustafizur Rahman who was at the other end, gave it away as South Africa registered an outstanding victory by 333 runs. Keshav Maharaj got an impressive 4 wickets while Rabada ended with three scalps.
Mushfiqur Rahim expressed disappointment about their bowling effort in the first innings and vowed to come back stronger. On the other hand, Faf du Plessis was delighted with the way his bowlers bowled and lauded their effort. Dean Elgar was announced the Man of the Match for a stupendous inning of 199 in the first innings.
