Twitter Reactions: South African bowlers shine as England is bludgeoned into submission
South Africa defeated England by 340 runs to bring back parity in the series.
In a Test match between two classy outfits, it was the Proteas who had the last laugh. South Africa, after losing to the Three Lions in the first match of the 4-Test series, were desperately searching for some joy at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. In a match that was fully packed with action, South Africa has defeated the hosts by as many as 340 runs.
Winning the toss, Faf du Plessis decided to bat first. Owing to top knocks from Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock, the Proteas managed to put up a formidable score of 335 runs. But it was the bowlers who did the trick for them, as the English batters surrendered to them. England managed to score 205 runs in the first innings. With the pitch already changing its colour and a healthy lead of 130 runs, it was a match for South Africa to lose from thereon.
But the batters again did justice to their reputation and veteran Hashim Amla justified his tag of one of the ‘calmest heads’ on the 22 yards. Scoring 343 runs, South Africa already felt they had half-won the game. But the fans expected some sort of resilience from the home team.
Unfortunately for the English supporters, resilience was on a vacation as the Protean bowlers bamboozled through the English batting roster. The hosts surrendered at just 133 runs as only 4 batters managed to reach the double figures. The stats suggest that the average time per wicket was less than 20 minutes. With the inception of shorter formats like T20, probably the players are trying to accelerate through the Test match so as to finish it in a shorter period of time.
Twitterati never disappoints and they found another hot topic today in the English team. From saluting the Protean bowling to mocking the English batters, they had it all covered as we move on to Kennington Oval for the 3rd Test.
