The 12th match of T20 World Cup 2021 between Netherlands and Sri Lanka (Group A) took place at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on 22 October 2021. Though the match was purely a dead rubber in the context of the Super 12 qualification, Netherlands couldn’t even step up today to make a mark as they lost the match by eight wickets in only 7.1 overs. Sri Lanka who has already qualified for the Super 12 stage won the toss and chose to show up with the ball first.
The decision turned absolutely in their favour as they completely ran through the batting order of their opponents. Colin Ackermann turned out to be the only batter from Netherlands to touch the double-digit score as he produced 11 runs from his willow. Owing to an absolutely dismal batting show, they posted 44 runs on the board and the worse turned up when they bundled up within 10 overs.
Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga turned up with the best bowling show from the Lankan bowling arsenal as they picked up three wickets each. They refused to leak runs which added to the ordeals of the already struggling Netherlands side. Maheesh Theekshana picked two wickets.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Sri Lanka’s one-sided affair

Far too easy for @OfficialSLC ! The clean sweep in the first round is great especially when some doubted SL's progress. Besides when a few think that beating the lesser teams was an easy task in T 20 cricket.I wish they spoke to the likes of @Sanath07 to find out about it.

Today was Sri Lanka's 2nd biggest victory in terms of balls remaining, knocking over their target with 77 balls remaining. Their biggest victory was also against Netherlands back in 2014, winning that game with 90 balls remaining. #T20WorldCup #SLvNED

Kusal Perera did all the batting work for Sri Lanka by smashing 33 runs
Though Sri Lanka was expected to take away the game with 10 wickets in hand, they lost two wickets on their way to victory. However, Kusal Perera did all the job for his team by smashing 33 runs. Talking of bowling artillery of Netherlands, Brandon Glover and Paul van Meekeren picked one wicket each for their team. However, nothing really mattered for them as they were defending a below-average total of 44 runs.
Talking of the final summary from the Qualifier stage, Sri Lanka and Namibia qualified for the Super 12 stage from Group A while Bangladesh and Scotland made the cut for the next round from Group B. The Qualifiers stage ended with the match between Netherlands and Sri Lanka. And the Super 12 matches are all lined up from 23 October with the first match to take place between Australia and South Africa.
