A three-run triumph over Mumbai Indians means Sunrisers Hyderabad’s outside chances of qualifying for the IPL 2022 playoffs are still alive. It was indeed a fascinating contest as the momentum was enjoying a rollercoaster. Chasing a massive total, MI looked in the hunt till the very end. In fact, the way Tim David was hitting the ball, SRH’s defeat even looked a mere formality. However, the Orange Army eventually managed to cross the line.

Earlier in the match, MI won the toss and opted to bowl at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. SRH went with a different opening combination as Priyam Garg operated alongside Abhishek Sharma. While the latter failed to make a mark this time around, Garg showcased his brilliance and scored 42 off 26 balls. Meanwhile, number-three batter Rahul Tripathi extended his golden run and brought up another fine half-century.

The dasher attacked MI bowlers from the outset as the ball was flying all over the park. He joined forces with Nicholas Pooran and the duo added 76 runs for the third wicket in no time. While Tripathi scored 76 off 44 balls, the Caribbean batter made a 22-ball 38. Fortunately for MI, both these batters perished inside three deliveries as SRH didn’t get the finish they would have desired.

The Orange Army still managed to post 193/6 in their allotted 20 overs. While most of the MI bowlers had a hard time, pacer Ramandeep Singh impressed one and all, recording figures of 3/20 in three overs. Meanwhile, MI got off to a flying start with openers Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan playing some fine shots in the powerplay overs.

Tim David pulled things back for MI

Both batters scored at a brisk pace, making sure that the required run rate stays within control. The duo added 95 runs for the opening wicket with both batters scoring in 40s. However, things took a massive turn after the fall of the first wicket. Umran Malik delivered a sensational spell in the middle overs and took three wickets in no time.

With MI losing five wickets inside 50 runs and the required run rate going up, SRH looked firmly in command. However, Tim David (46 off 18 balls) wasn’t ready to go down without fighting. The dasher unleashed mayhem in the end overs and cleared the fence for fun. He smashed T Natarajan for four massive sixes in the 18th over but was dismissed in the final delivery while going for a suicidal single. While Ramandeep gathered a couple of boundaries in the final over, MI were restricted to 190/7 in their allotted 20 overs, losing the contest by three runs.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to SRH’s triumph:
