South Africa completed the formalities in the series against Sri Lanka. They managed to clinch the T20I series 3-0 and thus clean swept the opposition. All-rounders Dwaine Pretorius and Andile Phehlukwayo were brilliant on the night for the home team. While Pretorius was great with the bat in hand, Phehlukwayo picked up a four-wicket haul. South won this encounter that was marred by rain by a margin of 45 runs according to the DLS Method. Earlier, Sri Lanka also lost the ODI series 0-5 but won the Test series 2-0.

Batting first in the match, South Africa put up a massive total of 198 runs on the board. Their opener Aiden Markram failed to deliver yet again. The right-hander crawled his way to 15 off 12 balls before Suranga Lakmal got the better of him. He didn’t look completely comfortable during his stay in the middle and smashed one four and one six in his innings.

After he got out, Dwaine Pretorius walked in to bat at number three. He built a good partnership with Reeza Hendricks as the latter continued his good form. Although he didn’t score at a great pace, Hendricks piled up 66 runs from 52 balls. Pretorius remained unbeaten on 77 off 42 balls while JP Duminy provided the fireworks towards the end. The skipper took just 14 balls to score 34 runs as the Proteas finished with a massive total on the board.

Andile Phehlukwayo picks up a 4-wicket haul

It was yet another disappointing performance from the Sri Lankan batsmen in this game. After a long time, Niroshan Dickwella finally got amongst the runs. The wicket-keeper scored 38 off 22 balls but no one else in the top six made a significant contribution. Four out of them returned with single-digit scores while Angelo Perera mustered 15 runs.

Isuru Udana was just beginning to fire in all cylinders when rain gods interrupted. The visitors scored 111 runs in 11.1 overs at this stage and lost six wickets. Moreover, they were also 13 runs behind the DLS par score. When the players were back on the field, the equation was reduced to 183 from 17 overs. So, from the last 35 balls, Sri Lanka had to score 72 runs.

However, Udana never found his momentum back after the break. He struggled and ultimately got out for 36 runs. Lutho Sipamla picked up two wickets in the 16th over of the game to bowl out the Lankans for 137 runs. Twitterati was happy to see the Proteas all-rounders fare so well in the match. They also praised Reeza Hendricks for his top-class innings.
