The Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a very easy win over the Rajasthan Royals in their first game of the season. It was a one sided affair on the cards for the fans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The hosts ticked all boxes perfectly on the day to completely outplay the opposition in all departments. After restricting the Royals to a below par total, the Sunrisers chased it down with utmost ease.
Coming to the game, both sides had similar fortunes. They were under new captains in the season and had a lot of doubts in mind before taking the field. Now, after the game is done and dusted, one side has walked back with almost all questions answered, while the other has a lot to think about for the games to follow. In the match, the Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bowl first.
They had a very good start with Royals opener D Arcy Short getting dismissed in the very first over of the game. Soon, they managed to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane, the other opener as well. The wickets kept tumbling but Sanju Samson held the fort for the Royals from one end. Samson perished after scoring a fighting 49. Much to the disappointment of the Royals fans, Samson found no support from the other end.
Furthermore, the SRH bowlers struck gold in the middle overs. Shakib Al Hasan and Rashid Khan were too hot to handle for the Royals. Also, Billy Stanlake and Siddarth Kaul bowled hostile spells to restrict Royals to 125/9 in the stipulated 20 overs. In the run chase, Sunrisers lost Wriddhiman Saha cheaply. It was Jaydev Unadkat who gave the much needed early breakthrough for the visitors.
However, that remained to be the only moment of joy for the Rajasthan camp. Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson rallied along to complete the run chase for the hosts to seal a 9 wicket win. Dhawan remained unbeaten on 77 off 57 deliveries with 13 fours and a six to seal the game for his side. Meanwhile, Williamson remained unbeaten on 36 (35) at the other end.
Here is how the fans reacted to the Sunrisers Hyderabad win:
When you are defending a small total a captain’s skill of using the bowlers, comes into play. It will be interesting to see how @rajasthanroyals handle the situation. As of now @SunRisers are the favourites. #SRHvRR #VivoIPL2018

I just feel @rajasthanroyals need to figure out where each batsmen bat and where they are most comfortable. Currently 5 of their top 6 can open and have opened a lot before. #firstmatchproblems

If you name Rajasthan Royals Karni Sena XI, they can win PL. #IPL

RR feel the Smith void; Kane is an Able replacement #SRHvRR

Rajasthan Royals would perhaps start playing well if there is a rule that the last 2 teams in the #IPL will have to play in the PSL.

So, it's four out of four for chasing teams this season. I am afraid if any team will look to bat first this season on most grounds. #SRHvRR

Poor Ajinkya Rahane. The tension was clearly showing on his face. #Royals need to regroup fast.
