Sun Risers Hyderabad achieved a much needed victory after two consecutive losses as table toppers Mumbai Indians lost their third game this season. With this win, the Sun Risers Hyderabad have improved their chances of qualifying for the play offs while Delhi Daredevils have crashed out.
Earlier in the day, it was captain Rohit Sharma who won the toss as Mumbai Indians surprisingly elected to bat first. They continued to play with an unchanged XI from their last game. On the other hand, SRH made three changes with Mohammed Nabi, Vijay Shankar and Mohammed Siraj brought in.
Batting first, Lendl Simmons was dismissed cheaply in the second over of the game. Nitish Rana again had a poor outing as he was caught by Bhuvneshwar Kumar at mid-off. Parthiv Patel who had been surviving on his luck also failed to get going as Mumbai Indians were left reeling at 36/3.
It was captain Rohit Sharma who again delivered the punches as he played a brilliant captain’s knock of 67 runs from just 45 balls. However, he failed to find any support from the other end as the likes of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard couldn’t score much.
Mumbai Indian could only post a total of 138/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Siddharth Kaul bowled beautifully for his 3/24 while Bhuvneshwar Kumar also got a couple of wickets. Mohammed Nabi was spectacular with figures of 1/13 in his quota of four overs. His Afghan counterpart Rashid Khan also managed to get a wicket.
SRH didn’t have a great start as David Warner was back to the dugout by the second over. From there on, Shikhar Dhawan and Moises Henriques put up a fantastic partnership for the second wicket as they scored 91 runs from 66 balls.
While Shikhar Dhawan stayed not out in his innings of 62 runs from 46 balls, Moises Henriques missed out on a half-century with a superb 44(35). Yuvraj Singh who was also suffering from a niggle failed to hang in at the crease for long. In the end, SRH won quite comfortably by 7 wickets as Vijay Shankar finished it off with a boundary.
Mumbai Indians bowled well but the target set by their batsmen was way less. The trio of Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga, all got a wicket each. Harbhajan Singh was wicketless but also economical in his quota of four overs. Shikhar Dhawan was deservingly rewarded the man of the match.
