Windies lost to Bangladesh in their 100th T20I.
After winning the First T20I, Windies were up for the second T20I against Bangladesh. This game was played at Lauderhill in Florida. Further, it was a wonderful opportunity for the Carribean side to seal the series. However, they faltered at the wrong time allowing Bangladesh bag an important win. The visitors won this game by 12 runs and the series is now down to an all-important decider that will be played on Monday.
After winning the toss, Windies skipper Carlos Brathwaite opted to bowl first. Bangladesh’s innings was lit up by the heroics of their opener Tamim Iqbal and skipper Shakib Al Hasan. Although they lost Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim early in the innings, the left-handed duo yielded some great fireworks. While Tamim scored 74 off 44 balls, Shakib smashed 60 off just 38 balls. In their quota of 20 overs, they posted 171 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets.
Bangladesh bowlers get it bang on target
With the kind of firepower that they have in their lineup, it didn’t seem as if it was going to be a tough one for Windies. Also, to their advantage, it was a small ground where their big hitters can clear the ropes easily. But, the Bangla bowlers were clinical with their lines and lengths. Moreover, they got Windies down to 58/4 in just the 8th over of the innings.
Although Andre Fletcher and Rovman Powell tried hard to get the innings back on track, they got out at the wrong time. They failed to get the big shots going and succumbed to the pressure as the asking rate was soaring up with every over. Windies only managed to get 159 runs on the board and fell short by 12 runs. Mustafizur Rahman and Nazmul Islam picked 3 wickets each in the innings.
The Bangladesh fans were delighted after this victory. Their team hasn’t performed up to the potential in T20Is in the last few games. They got close and lost the game on several occasions. Hence, this victory proved to be a sigh of relief for the fans and they congratulated the team on the microblogging site Twitter.
