Twitter Reactions: Taskin Ahmed's five-for takes centre stage as Bangladesh script history in South Africa
Bangladesh won the ODI series 2-1 in SA.
After carrying a reputation of getting embarrassed on foreign lands for years, Bangladesh have scripted history in South Africa by winning their maiden ODI series against the hosts. Tamim Iqbal and his men won the closing game of the ODI series by nine wickets in Centurion to win the series 2-1 with 141 balls to spare in their chase. Taskin Ahmed’s sensational five-for, after conceding just 35 runs in the game, was the highlight for the visitors in the final game. He went on to bag both player of the match and series awards.
Talking of the final game, the home side elected to bat first but failed to put up a big total. Janneman Malan’s 39(56) was the only substantial effort from their batting set-up wherein Ahmed got under the skin of the hosts’ batters and allowed them to post a meager total of 154 runs on the board. Apart from his five-for, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan got two wickets to his name.

As soon as the visitors walked up to chase the target, Tamim Iqbal left no stone unturned to lead his men from the front. He gave his side a perfect start and ended up scoring a solid 87* off 82 deliveries. He found the perfect support in Liton Das. Das, who was balancing the ship well with his skipper, was out two runs short of his half-century (48 off 57).

The victory couldn’t have been more special for the visitors as the winning runs came off the bat of the veteran, Shakib Al Hasan (18 off 20). Keshav Maharaj got the only wicket that the visitors lost in their chase. After winning the ODI series, Bangladesh would be high on confidence to lock horns with Proteas for the two-match Test series. Star pacer Kagiso Rabada went wicketless on the day.
