Twitter Reactions: The Strikers make a mockery of the chase against the Shane Watson-powered Thunder
It was a massive win for the Sydney Thunder.
The Sydney Thunder hosted the Adelaide Strikers for the first of the tripleheader on Sunday. Skipper Shane Watson led the Thunder from the front to help them register their fourth win of the tournament. The side has added crucial two points to the points table to even out the number of wins and losses after eight games. They have now taken a huge leap on the points table and rose up to the second spot.
The performance from Adelaide Strikers in this game was highly disappointing. The target was surely chasable in the second innings. But the top-order batsman ended up consuming quite a few deliveries leaving out too much of an asking for the other players. Arjun Nair was one of the best bowlers for the winning team in the game.
The Watto Power on display
After winning the toss, Shane Watson decided to bat first. He opened the innings along with Anton Devcich and took the side off to a lightning start. Though, Rashid Khan applied brakes on the scoring rates by picking up the wickets of Devcich and Cullum Ferguson on consecutive balls in the fourth over.
Jason Sangha who came in next played the anchor and assisted Watson. He scored 30 off 27 balls before he perished. The skipper, though, was terrific at one end. He compiled 68 runs in 40 balls at a strike rate of 170 and hit five huge sixes in the innings. Jay Lenton provided the team with final impetus with a 16-ball 27 as they put up 168/6 on the board in 20 overs.
Pathetic batting from the Strikers
In the chase, the Strikers lost both their openers D’Arcy Short and Jake Weatherald early in the innings without many runs on the board. Then, skipper Travis Head ended up consuming deliveries as he only could score 10 from 18 balls. It was a similar case with Jonathan Wells who only managed to rack up 11 runs in 22 balls.
Even though Colin Ingram tried hard with 48 of 30 deliveries, it was just too much of an asking for him. The side was ultimately bowled out for just 97 runs in 17.4 overs and lost the game by 71 runs. Arjun Nair picked up three wickets in the innings.
Twitterati wasn’t happy to see such kind of a batting display from Adelaide Strikers. Also, there was immense praise for Shane Watson for pulling out this brilliant inning. Also, there was a lot of praise for young Arjun Nair who bowled pretty well in the match.
