One of the favourites to win the World Cup 2019, Team India was absolutely ripped apart in the practice game against New Zealand. The team failed to reach the expected standards in all the three departments of the game leading to a disastrous start. Skipper Virat Kohli, after winning the toss, wanted to test the team and hence opted to bat in swinging conditions. However, the batsmen couldn’t survive the threat from Trent Boult.
They were all over the place and had troubles against the swinging ball. Both the openers failed to pick the direction of movement and were dismissed for cheap scores. Further misery struck as Trent Boult got KL Rahul bowled for 6 after sending back both the openers. Virat Kohli looked the most comfortable as he negated the swing by standing almost 2 metres in front of the stumps. Along with Hardik Pandya, he tried to take the attack to the bowlers.
However, his RCB teammate Colin de Grandhomme set him up beautifully and managed to get through the gate dismissing the 30-year-old for 18. Pandya was extremely good during his stay in the middle. But, after scoring 30 runs, he ended up playing down the wrong line and edged one to the keeper. MS Dhoni struggled to rotate the strike and got 17 runs from 42 balls. Luckily though, Ravindra Jadeja came to rescue by scoring 54 runs and helped prevent an embarrassment. His knock helped India get to 179 runs before they were bowled out.
Williamson-Taylor duo does the job after the good work from Trent Boult
The chase was always going to be quite a cakewalk for the Kiwis. Colin Munro, though, failed to utilise the opportunity and got out early for just 4 runs. While Martin Guptill also couldn’t make it big, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor both got to their fifties. After scoring 67 runs, the skipper got out to Chahal. Taylor got out for 71 when the side was one run short of a win. But, his knock was enough to hand the Blackcaps a 6-wicket win.
The fans were disappointed with this performance from Team India and expressed dismay on Twitter. They lashed out at the top-order batsman who failed to negate the threat of the new ball. While they applauded Ravindra Jadeja, they even felt that beating New Zealand will be tough. Apart from Trent Boult, Jimmy Neesham also garnered the praise for picking up three wickets. The Kiwi fans were relieved after Kane Williamson got some important runs under his belt.
Here are the best reactions after New Zealand’s dominance in the game:
.@RossLTaylor and skipper Kane have done a world of good to their confidence. Scoring against this Indian bowling on a pitch like this is an ideal start to their campaign.#CWC19

Spinners going at 6 an over…only One wicket in the process. Bhuvi-Shami not picking wickets. Whatever could’ve gone wrong…has indeed gone wrong. Good to get this out of the way…. #IndvNZ #CWC19

India should ve gone for proper ODI tours in eng/sa/nz/aus before the world cup.
The IPL was organized in a very bad time!
Hope so we don't get this type of humiliation again against a fast bowling attack! #INDvNZ
