January 11 is a special date for Indian cricket. It was the day when the country’s most dependable batting star Rahul Sharad Dravid was born. Symbolized as the ‘nice guy,’ he is a widely respected figure among fans, peers and opposition players.
Dravid always welcomed challenges and overcame them with sheer hard work. His batting was classy and orthodox. Perhaps, he can be counted as the last classical Test batsman India had. Bearing the burden of high expectation a cricket crazy nation is not an easy task but, he enjoyed that responsibility for 16 long years. He always strived for excellence. The ‘Wall of Indian Cricket’ was a gentle giant.
Even after retiring, Dravid expressed his desire to hone the young talents of the country and was appropriately entrusted with the responsibility of coaching India A and India U19 teams. He has always thrived to make his country proud. The more you talk about him, the less it is. But, one thing is for sure that there would never be another player who can stand by the nature of the ‘Gentleman’s game’ as perfectly as Rahul Dravid has done in his entire career.
Twitter was also buzzing and Rahul Dravid was trending as wishes poured in from teammates, fans and the governing bodies. From present to former cricketers, popular brands to politicians everyone made sure that they wish the much-loved cricketer on the special day.
