Indian swing bowler Praveen Kumar joins the long list of cricketers who have switched professions to move the political way. Kumar has been out of favor from the national selectors since last playing a T20I against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2012. He today announced his decision to join the Samajwadi Party which is seen as a move to contest in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls set to be held in 2017.

He met the Chief Minister of UP, Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the president of the party in the sate and said, “I have met CM and decided to join the party. I will do whatever is possible for the party,”

Does he intend to contest the state assembly polls next year? Kumar said, “I am a kid in this field. As of now I will try to learn it (politics).”

The ability to swing the ball both ways was PK’s biggest strength and the attribute which paved way for his rise in the ranks and playing for the national team as well. But with time, the game evolved and the bowlers with just swing and little pace failed to survive. He bowled in mid 120s which is too gentle to trouble the modern day batsmen. To make matters worse he has had temper issues and that never went down well with the BCCI. He was on multiple occasions reprimanded and even suspended for breach of the code of conduct.

Twitterati weren’t really pleased with his decision of joining SP and rather equated it with his ill-temper to term it quite a partnership. Here is how Twitter reacted:
