Just like the first Test in Rajkot, Team India has sealed the second and final game of the series on the third day itself. The visitors staged a stunning fightback in the first session by picking quick wickets of the opposition. But their third innings failure cost them the game big time and they blew away a chance to set a tricky target in front of India who were going to bat last on a deteriorating surface in Hyderabad.

Umesh Yadav was once again the hero with the ball for India who picked the wicket of the very second ball of the innings. Kraigg Brathwaite missed the flick of the delivery going down the leg-side and instead edged it only for Rishabh Pant to grab it superbly. Ravi Ashwin sent back his partner Kieran Powell for a duck in the very next over and in no time, Windies were struggling at 6/2.

The poor start meant that they were always under pressure and even the middle-order crumbled. While all the three batsmen – Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer and Sunil Ambris – got starts, none of them could convert it into a big one. The first innings centurion Roston Chase was undone by a sensational reverse swinging ball by Umesh yet again. The injured Shane Dowrich bagged the first-ball duck while Jason Holder also couldn’t arrest his team’s collapse.

Fittingly, Umesh ended their vigil in the second innings with only 127 runs on the board to bag his first 10-wicket match haul in the longest format. The lead of only 71 runs made sure that India didn’t have to break a sweat to win the match.

Their openers Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul batted with no pressure. The visitors tried their best to take the game into the fourth day but the duo was up for the mini-challenge and India chased down the target with all their wickets intact. They also sealed the series by 2-0 which will increase their confidence a lot ahead of the stern Australia tour. The fact that the Windies put them under the pressure and then India fought back makes this victory look even better when compared to Rajkot.

Holder leads stunning fightback

The presence of Jason Holder in this Caribbean side makes a lot of difference to them. When India resumed at 308/4 with two set batsmen in the middle, the talk was only about them scoring 500 runs again. Windies, however, had other ideas. They took the new ball and sent back the overnight batsmen quickly. While Holder got the prized scalp of Ajinkya Rahane, Shannon Gabriel denied yet another century for Pant.

Holder wreaked havoc by picking up a five-wicket haul and the fact that the injured Shardul Thakur came out to bat extended the Indian innings helping them add a few more valuable runs. It was only due to Ashwin that they managed to eke out a 56-run lead after losing wickets in a hurry in the morning. He scored 35 runs before getting out and made sure that his team had the advantage.

Eventually, the lead proved to be more than enough as the visitors capitulated in their second chance and India sealed the series comfortably in the end.
