Whenever India and Australia are playing, never rule out a controversy. While the Adelaide Test didn’t have much going between the two sides, the action in Perth will surely spice things up. The Indian captain Virat Kohli was adjudged out by the third umpire in a close call as Peter Handscomb claimed the catch at the second slip. The batsman though refused to move and it all went to the third umpire.
But the soft signal from Kumar Dharmasena was out and that definitely played a part in Kohli’s dismissal. The third umpire Nigel Llong requested for various angles to see if the catch was clear and didn’t have enough evidence to overrule the on-field decision which led to Kohli trudging back to the pavilion in disgust. He was clearly not happy with the decision and was livid even as the Australian crowd gave him a standing ovation for an exceptional knock.
But the Indian captain didn’t even raise his bat knowing that his team wasn’t in a great position and further went into the mire with Mohammed Shami bagging yet another golden duck.
Actual delivery
Coming back to the delivery, Pat Cummins, who toiled hard on the second day, bowled a fuller length delivery to which Virat Kohli tried to drive on the up only to edge it. Peter Handscomb did well to get down as the ball was dying on him and claimed the catch. But Kohli wasn’t entirely convinced and smiled while refusing to go back to the hut.
But the celebrations from the Australians meant that the soft signal was always going to be out and while it is still not clear if the catch was fair, Twitterati has given its verdict in favour of the World’s best batsman. They are lashing out at Australia for claiming an unfair and things might just spice when the hosts come out to bat later in the day.

The bottom line is that technology in such matters is inconclusive and will always be inconclusive because we are seeing a 3 dimensional event in 2 dimensions. And so the verdict tend to go with the on-field umpire.

We demand for a Supreme Court decision.

Was Kohli caught by Handscomb?
Katich: "To me it looked like he had his fingers wrapped underneath the ball. They seemed really confident from the moment. The soft signal from all reports was out."

Can't really understand why there is a soft signal for referrals. The point you go up itself is that you are not sure… #Kohli #INDvAUS
