Twitter Reactions: Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and the bowlers put India into ascendancy
The match is likely to get over on the third day itself.
It was always going to be a mismatch. The ongoing first Test between India and Windies might end on the third day itself with the way the visitors are batting. After being on the field for the most parts of the second day, their batsmen crumbled hopelessly and were six down with only 82 runs on the board in only 29 overs which were bowled in the last session of the day.
After the hosts declared on a mammoth total of 649 runs, the tired openers, Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell came out to bat with an aim to provide the team with a decent start. But their hopes were shattered in the third over itself as Mohammed Shami castled the opposition skipper for just two runs. The same bowler pinned the other opener in front of the stumps to leave them reeling at 7/2.
One felt that Windies batsmen will show some substance with two of their best batsmen, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, in the middle, but that wasn’t the case as Ravi Ashwin disturbed the former’s furniture after which Hetmyer was involved in the hilarious mix-up with Sunil Ambris which reduced Windies to 32/4.
The slide didn’t stop as they further lost a couple more wickets to end the poor day on 92/6 with Roston Chase and Keemo Paul somehow saving their wicket until stumps.
Kohli and Jadeja notch up centuries
Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant resumed and continued to rack up runs easily. The latter was more enterprising in his approach as literally smacked the bowlers out of the park. Windies’ bowling didn’t look menacing at all and it seemed like they were waiting for the batsmen to make a mistake. Pant raced away to 92 with the help of eight fours and five sixes. But an ugly heave to send Devendra Bishoo out of the ground proved to be his undoing and missed out on an opportunity to score consecutive Test tons.
Meanwhile, Kohli was going through the processes quietly and soon notched up his 24th Test century in the whites. The amazing part of his knock was his patience as he only hit five boundaries on his way to the milestone. Ravindra Jadeja came out to bat at number seven and after getting his eye in, starting to open up his hands. Kohli and Ravi Ashwin feel quickly in the pursuit of quick runs which allowed the left-hander to play freely.
India aimed for a declaration but Jadeja’s assault after reaching his half-century kept Windies in the field. The team management wanted Jaddu to complete his first Test ton and he didn’t disappoint them. The sword celebration was unfurled twice in the day as he reached his first three-figure score for the first time in his Test career. Soon after some wonderful celebrations, Kohli decided to declare the innings with 649 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets.
Twitterati was busy praising India for their dominance over the cricketers while the visitors were bashed for such a meek surrender.
