The T20I series between Sri Lanka and India has been marred with COVID positive case in the visiting camp but certain players have grabbed the opportunity to impress the experts. One such player has been the Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. He played a key role in the hosts winning the second T20I and also bowled exceptionally well in the third and deciding game of the series.
Hasaranga was one of the main reasons why India could only post 81 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs. The leggie was almost unplayable during his four-over spell as he strangled Indian batsmen and returned with the magical figures of 4/9.
Hasaranga kept the Indian batsmen on the tenterhooks all the time and celebrated his 24th birthday in style. His figures are also the best on the birthday in T20 Internationals as he went past the South Africa spinner Imran Tahir. During his brilliant spell, the birthday boy snared wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Varun Chakravarthy.
Overall, his tally of wickets reached seven in the three-match T20I series against India to go with three wickets in two ODIs as well.
India restricted only for 81 thanks to Hasaranga’s spell
Thanks to Wanindu Hasaranga’s superb spell, Sri Lanka managed to restrict India to a meagre total in their 20 overs. Apart from the leg-spinner, Dasun Shanaka, Ramesh Mendis and Dushmantha Chameera also picked wickets. Only three Indian batsmen could reach the double-figures with two of them being Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav.
It was due to them that the Men in Blue batted the whole quota of their 20 overs. While Bhuvi scored 16 runs off 32 balls, Kuldeep showcased his batting skills scoring an unbeaten 23 off 28 balls. With top-order and all five batsmen getting out early, the visitors could hit only four boundaries in their entire innings. After losing the ODI series, Sri Lanka have certainly fought back nicely in the series and will be feeling confident enough ahead of the World Cup now.

Wanindu Hasaranga (4-9) now has the best figures by a birthday boy in T20Is. He could have taken 5 had he reviewed one LBW call.
4-9 also the best figures by anyone vs India in T20Is. And he is the first player to bowl 4 overs for less than 10 runs vs India. #SLvInd https://t.co/yXgIydzkUL

Also, this Sri Lanka team is much exciting than the dismal teams we have been seeing since 2015. Shanaka, karunaratne, dhananjay , hasaranga. Happy for @OfficialSLC and world cricket#SLvInd

India finish at a terrible 81/8 in their 20 overs with Kuldeep being the highest scorer with 23 no. They were totally Struggle by the spin of Hasaranga who finished with magical figures of 4/9 in 4 overs.

I think hasaranga deserve the man of the series and recently he claimed the 2nd position in rankings in t20i

Why haven’t we seen more of Hasaranga & Karunaratne in the IPL? Should be picked ahead of tbe overrated Samsons and Pandyas and Ranas of the world. Serious talent and great temperament. Impressive. #INDvsSL2021
