Former India batsman Wasim Jaffer has made himself privy to yet another milestone by becoming one of the select few players to smash 18,000 First-Class runs in the context of the Indian domestic circuit. A veteran opening batsman, Jaffer is one of the most recognized people in the Indian domestic circuit and has been around for almost 20 years.
Having begun his career with the Mumbai cricket team, Jaffer was known for his elegance and controlled aggression as a Test cricketer, something that eventually got him on the selection radar for the Indian side. He has also been a veteran of the Indian cricket team wherein he has opened for the country in test matches across the world. His most memorable innings overseas have come against Australia and the West Indies, not only due to the manner in which he has batted but also the bowling attacks he has faced over the years.
After missing out on several occasions for selection, Jaffer then began focusing on milestones up ahead in terms of domestic cricket. He recently crossed 15,000 runs, something many batsmen have not been able to do in recent times. He made the switch to Vidharba and has been one of their most prolific scorers in recent times apart from playing an instrumental role in them clinching their maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2018.
He was selected as one of the senior-most batsmen for the Z Irani Trophy in 2018 against the Rest of India side and crossed 18,000 runs in the process. He was a surprise pick in the 2008 IPL Auction when he was picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore to play a format he was not really conducive to. Needless to say, he has a half-century to his name in T20 cricket.
Here are some tweets following Jaffer’s impressive milestone
