Following their one-sided victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to win their second game as well. The Yellow Army, captained by MS Dhoni, defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. Most importantly, CSK moved to the top of the points table. Their bowlers again stepped up after which the batters finished the formalities.

Dhawan steadies Delhi’s ship

The Super Kings won the toss and elected to field first, but Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan took the Capitals off to a blistering start with a partnership of 36 runs from 27 deliveries. Deepak Chahar drew first blood as he dismissed Shaw for 24. Shreyas Iyer smacked an over-boundary off Imran Tahir, but the DC skipper fell prey to the veteran South African spinner after scoring 18 runs from 20 balls.

Rishabh Pant threw his bat around to score 25 runs from 13 balls and his knock was cut short by Dwayne Bravo. Meanwhile, Dhawan accomplished his half-century in 45 deliveries and he became Bravo’s third victim. Bravo also accounted for the wicket of Colin Ingram. After a reasonable start, the hosts would be disappointed as they ended their innings on 147 for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs.

CSK come out all guns blazing

In their run-chase, CSK lost Ambati Rayudu for five to Ishant Sharma. Nevertheless, Shane Watson and Suresh Raina threw the kitchen sink at everything and cobbled together a stand of 52 runs from 24 balls. Amit Mishra gave the Delhi Capitals a sigh of relief with the wicket of Watson, who was looking ominous with a score of 44 runs off 26 balls. His knock was laced with four boundaries and three sixes.

A few overs later, Mishra picked up his second wicket in the form of Raina after the latter blazed away to 30 runs off 16 deliveries. Thereafter, the onus was on Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni had the onus to ensure that CSK don’t suffer any hiccup en route their victory. Jadhav went back after a knock of 27 runs. Nonetheless, Dhoni stayed till the very end and remained not out on 32 from 35 balls.
