The Day 1 of the third Test at St Lucia saw a phenomenal bowling performance by the hosts followed by a scintillating fightback by Indian lower order to balance the day’s proceedings. Captain Jason Holder won the toss as West Indies elected to field first.
India made some surprising changes. While Jadeja came in for Mishra, Bhuvanesh walked in for Yadav. Rohit Sharma was accommodated in the batting lineup at the expense of Vijay and Mishra.
Dhawan got out early as Kohli came in at no.3 to everyone’s surprise. However, Joseph ended up amazing Kohli with sudden bounce that went straight to the first slip. Just when it seemed India were recovering well, KL Rahul threw away after scoring another brilliant fifty. Rohit Sharma disappointed on comeback while Rahane’s patience shattered soon as he got bowled.
It could be seen that the confidence of the West Indies team was mounting high especially after the kind of comeback they made in the second Test at Jamaice. Both Joseph and Roston had taken a couple of wickets and tightened the screws from their ends in the first two sessions.
Nevertheless, another reckless performance with the bat by Ashwin saved the day for India. He registered his 6th fifty as India closed the day at 234/5 from 126/5 without losing a single wicket in the final session. Saha supported him well at the other end with a gritty 46*.

Twitter had various meltdowns and hilarious takedowns as the match progressed. While Rohit Sharma got trolled, Ashwin won accolades for his splendid batting. The Windies bowlers also found some support on Twitter if not from the empty stadium. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during Day One of the third test
Batsman need to be flexible to fit in the team. But for some, team gets flexible to fit them. Rohit Sharma so lucky to be in 2nd category

Right now, Cheteshwar Pujara is a lot like Abhinav Bindra.
No Indian can understand why he lost out.— Sorabh Pant (@hankypanty) August 9, 2016
2006- match is not over till sachin is out
2016- match is not over till ashwin is out #IndvsWI— Good Doctor (@iamthemaulik) August 9, 2016
Cricinfo says all specialist batsmen have been dismissed. What more will Ash have to do?

West Indies impressive with the ball so far. But I fear they will be equally unimpressive with the bat and will lose the advantage #WIvInd

Set batting order ruined only to fit Rohit Sharma. His finest talent is to always make it look like bowler's fault to get him out #IndvsWI

Rohit Sharma is a true test player. Whenever he plays, the ability of other players in the team is tested.

Rahane and Ashwin have added 36 runs in 22 overs.

So let me see if I got it right: Pujara is slow so Rohit. Rohit is weak so Kohli up. Net net, Kohli and Rohit both gone cheap. Yeah?
— Prem Panicker (@prempanicker) August 9, 2016
Rahul Dravid is lucky not to have played in modern day , else he would have been dropped so many times for slow batting #WIvIND
— Shashi (@AllTimeBakchod) August 9, 2016
What great would have Rohit Sharma done anyway? Stupid team selection for the game. #WIvIND

Pujara is like a food cooked by your mom. You realise it's (his) importance only when you don't have (get) it. #WIvIND

Hope @twitter servers are strong enough to handle the outrage now that Rohit and Dhawan have failed.

I was alive when Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma played a Test match for India ahead of Murali Vijay. #AchievementUnlocked

Just switch on the TV minutes later and you miss watching Dhawan bat.. #WIvIND
— Sameer Allana (@HitmanCricket) August 9, 2016
Rohit Sharma has been picked ahead of Murali Vijay. This has to be his biggest achievement in Test cricket so far #WIvIND

The kind of news that scares you, when 10-15 people refuse to come and watch Test cricket in West Indies. https://t.co/hXZnwGwRV6
