After the first two Tests at Antigua and Barbados ended in a stalemate, it is the West Indies who came out on top in the third and final game at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada with a thumping 10-wicket win over England. The hosts showcased an outstanding performance right throughout the contest after winning the toss and electing to bowl first.
While it is a demoralizing loss for England, it also needs to be noted that they have suffered back-to-back away Test series defeats after suffering a humiliating 0-4 loss in the Ashes series against arch-rivals Australia Down Under in December-January. In fact, the Joe Root-led side has not won a red-ball series ever since their 2-0 victory in Sri Lanka back in January 2021.
West Indies bowlers shine well in the contest
The match did not last for five days courtesy of some remarkable bowling performance from the WI and lack of application with the bat by the visitors who could only score 204 and 120 in both innings which was never going to pose much of a challenge for the Caribbeans.
While there was no half-centurion for England in the first innings with tail-ender Saqib Mahmood managing 49, the second innings only saw the likes of opener Alex Lees, Jonny Bairstow, and Chris Woakes breach two figures with scores of 31, 22, and 19 respectively. Pacer Kyle Mayers’ fifer broke England’s backbone as it ensured that the West Indies hardly had anything to chase in their second innings. He finished with figures of 5/18.
The West Indies chased down the paltry 28-run target without breaking a sweat and by virtue of this win, were the best side in this just-concluded home bilateral series. They had also handed a 3-2 defeat to England in the five-match T20Is that had preceded the Test series. Joshua Da Silva was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning 100 in the first innings whereas Test skipper Kraigg Brathwaite was named the Player of the Series.

Well done, West Indies! They defended solidly for draws in the first two Tests, then Mayered England in Grenada. Brathwaite herculean throughout.

Regular reminder that:
England have not won a a Test series in West Indies since 2004NZ have never won a Test series v SA
Sri Lanka have never won a Test in India
And that SENA and Asia (and filters that assume conditions across geographies are uniform) are bogus

What a win for West Indies! Ensured they fought hard in first two games and then in the third, brought out the bowling skills to nail England down and ensure they win the series. Excellent effort from Brathwaite, Seales overall.
