Twitter Reactions: West Indies eye first Test win under Jason Holder
Pakistan having lost four batsmen under 100 runs yesterday were far better in the first session today. Both the overnight batsmen Azhar Ali and Sarfaraz Ahmed showed great intent and were quite successful during the course. They just lost one wicket to the West Indies bowlers in the morning session that of Sarfaraz while Azhar still looked solid and in all determination to bail his team out of troubles.
Post Lunch, there was a sense of unrest and there was a slide, in no time Pakistan were eight down with not much of a contribution to their total either. Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo had Azhar nine short of his century and all of a sudden the West Indies team had a spring in their step. Skipper Jason Holder who had inflicted Pakistan most of the damage on day 3 then returned to run away with the last two wickets and with that claimed the first five-wicket haul of his career.
Pakistan were bowled out for 208 runs and the target for West Indies was 153. The West Indians now believed they could win this Test but the Pakistani bowlers were never going to let that happen as easy as it sounded. Opener Leon Johnson had a couple of lives but couldn’t make it count and fell for 12. They then lost 4 wickets without any significant contribution to the scoreboard.
At stumps, they had Kraigg Brathwaite and Shane Dowrich at the crease while they are 39 runs short of the target and have 5 wickets in hand. After the end of play, Azhar Ali said: “Still 39 runs to go, we’ve to break this partnership early in the morning and take it from there. Every game is important. If you want to top the rankings, you’ve to win every game. We want to win this Test. It’s still open.”
West Indies are cautious and want to focus until the job is done. Bishoo said: “Throughout the second innings, we got crucial wickets. There’s still a job to do. We can’t take anything for granted. We have to stay focused and finish the job. It’s very important for us to win. It would be amazing if we finish this off on a high.”
