West Indies and South Africa met at Nagpur in a crucial Group 1 encounter. Darren Sammy won the toss as the West Indian captain opted to bowl first. South Africa left Kyle Abbott for Aaron Phangiso while Rilee Rossouw came in for the injured JP Duminy.
South Africa lost Hashim Amla in the first over as he was run out by Andre Russell. They were reduced to 47/5 in 8.2 overs with half of the side including AB de Villiers back to the pavilion. Interestingly, Chris Gayle shone with the ball picking up 2 wickets.
Quinton de Kock played the lone hand scoring 47 off 45 balls along with David Wiese who went on to score 28 runs from 25 balls. South Africa could only manage 122 runs at the loss of 8 wickets by the end of 20 overs. Dwayne Bravo and Russell also took 2 wickets apiece.
West Indies lost Gayle in the first over who failed to show his magic with the bat as he was undone by Kagiso Rabada. Johnson Charles 32 (35) then guided West Indies from a spot of bother and later Marlon Samuels with a gritty run a ball 44 took them over the line. Imran Tahir almost turned the tables with 2 wickets but Carlos Brathwaite ensured that they reach the target.
In the end, West Indies won the game by 3 wickets and 2 balls to spare. Windies thus became the second team after New Zealand to book their spot for the semi-finals. South Africa’s fate now depends upon Sri Lanka beating England and also other things going their way.
Twitter kept everyone entertained right from trolling Chris Gayle for his epic pose after he got a wicket to Imran Tahir’s famous celebration after taking a wicket. Here are some of the hilarious tweets during the South Africa – West Indies game:

Heavy weather from the West Indies but so small was South Africa's score that this is still gettable.

For the first time in this #WT20, Darren Sammy has came on to pitch and he is gone for a golden duck.

SA giving a lesson on how to field on a slow pitch: attacking the ball & cutting off angles. Du Plessi, Roussouw doing a great job. #WT20

Samuels and Bravo both have completed 1000 T20I runs in this game.#SAvsWI #WT20

A full ball, with pace & swing, can be devastating even in T20. Proven earlier by Wahab against Khawaja & now by Rabada against Gayle. #WT20

Never trust your Boss' bitch and Nagpur's pitch.

South Africa need the umpire to stop Gayle from batting again and even that may not help #SAvsWI #WT20

South Africa will have to bowl really well to stay in the tournament. So far, not enough runs against a side that bats really deep

just brilliant from Sammy. Gayle hadn't taken a wicket since Sep 2012. But with two lefties, and two men down already, was worth the gamble

Now I get it – brathwaite has been bought by DD to rescue them when they stuff up easy chases #WT20 #WIvsSA
