Younis Khan is that horse you never want to count out of the race. He didn’t get a big score thus far in the series and one could sense something was coming. On a day marred by rain and when no other Pakistani batsman could defy the Australian bowlers Younis stood there firm. At the end of the day, while they still trail the follow-on target by 67 runs.

The day started on a damp note as the first session was washed out by rain. Once the conditions were playable only 54 overs of play was possible on the 3rd day. Opener Azhar Ali who started the proceedings with Younis unbeaten on 58 while the veteran was batting on 64. The duo added 146 runs together to see through the initial phase of the new day which has usually been a problem for Pakistan. Just when they would have liked to consolidate it further Ali was run out against the run of play.

Younis drove a Nathan Lyon delivery a bit away from Mitchell Starc at mid-on and wanted to go for the run, Ali all this while was just watching the ball and not his partner. When he finally noticed and got off for a run it was a bit too late, the fast bowler got the throw in and Ali was well short. He disappointingly walked back having added 71 runs. Younis continued from his end but didn’t find a stable partner thereafter.

Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq who has been under pressure recorded yet another low score and was dismissed for 18. This is the 10th inning since Misbah last scored a fifty and that really mounts the pressure on the veteran who is already thinking about his future. After a brief phase of resistance from the visitors, Aussie bowlers came back towards the end of the day and cracked regular wickets to send eight of them back in the hut at stumps.
