He walked into bat when Rohit Sharma, unfortunately, ran himself out on 91. The team score was pretty comfortably poised at 192/2 in 36.4 overs but they needed the impetus – with rain interruptions both Virat Kohli and Rohit though set were finding it difficult to time the ball. But Yuvraj Singh came in and changed the course of the game.

He wasn’t fit for the warm-up matches, Dinesh Karthik played against Bangladesh and scored 94 but as soon as Yuvraj was fit for the game he was drafted in the XI against Pakistan. They say big match players rise to the occasion in big matches and he did!

On the third ball he hit Wahab Riaz for a boundary, it was a straight bat punch and raced to the ropes. Very early in his innings Hasan Ali dropped him off leg-spinner Shadab Khan and Yuvraj made them pay for it. While the score was stuck and the Indian team was struggling to pile on the runs at expected rate after Yuvi got going the boundaries and sixes put Pakistan bowlers on the back foot.

He faced 32 balls in his knock to score 53 runs and took just 29 balls for the half century which is the second fastest half century by an Indian against Pakistan and the 5th fastest in the history of the tournament. Yuvi hit as many as eight boundaries and one beautiful six. It was a vintage Yuvraj knock!

By the time he got out Team India had 285 runs on the board in 46.2 overs. Hardik Pandya was entrusted with the responsibility of finishing the innings ahead of MS Dhoni and he did justice to it. Sarfraz Ahmed picked Imad Wasim to bowl the last over after Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz walked off.

Pandya greeted him with a six on the first ball over long-off and hit another couple of sixes on the next two balls to take Team India over 310. Virat drove the last ball over cover and between the sweeper and long-off fielder to end the inning on 319. The revised target for Pakistan is 324 in 48 overs.
