After getting a massive lead on Day 1, England further cemented their position on Day 2. There were no positives for Pakistan be it with the ball or the bat. The hosts started off at 332/4 and were expected to play some explosive cricket on Day 2. With the weather forecast not being good for the final two days of the Test, a declaration was expected soon.

The first session of Day 2 was once again interrupted by rain. In a session where only 18 overs could be bowled, the English side managed to lose no wickets. Jos Buttler successfully scored a hundred after being given out on 99. If not for the DRS system, he would’ve become another sad 99 case.

The second session was where England took off. They came out with an aggressive approach and started scoring some quick runs. Zak Crawley, who was the star of Day 1, continued his great performance. He went on to score 267 runs before being dismissed by Asad Shafiq. The entire Pakistan team applauded his brilliant performance and went to congratulate him.

Post Crawley’s dismissal, Buttler brought up his 150 and was dismissed soon after. Chris Woakes and Dom Bess played some aggressive cricket to help the hosts score some quick runs. England declared their inning after scoring a massive 583 runs. It was now up to their bowlers to the job.

Coming to the Asian side, the bowlers looked completely off-color. The wickets too were mostly taken by the part-timers. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Yasir Shah, and Fawad Alam ended with two wickets, while Naseem Shah and Asad Shafiq got one each.

James Anderson shines with the ball; England completely on top

The Pakistan batsmen needed to be at their best in order to make a comeback in this match. However, this was not the case. England’s premier fast bowler, James Anderson showed his class once again. He managed to dismiss three of Pakistan’s top four batsmen in less than six overs. The biggest wicket being that of Babar Azam.

The visitors ended the day at 24/3 after playing 10.5 overs. On a pitch that is expected to be good for batting, this was not the start they would’ve looked for. With the weather prediction not being good for the remaining days, Pakistan would be hoping to get away with a draw.

An interesting thing to look at on Day 3 would be how Azhar Ali and Fawad Alam perform. The two batsmen have been under the scanner and require a good performance to keep their spot.
