Twitter reacts as Riyan Parag finally gets his first IPL half-century
His first fifty might have taken some time but the way he made it happen was totally worth the wait.
Fans were going gaga over the fact that the 17-year-old Riyan Parag was playing against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in his IPL debut, in April. The reason was that as a 6-year-old Parag had waited in line to get an autograph from his role model MS Dhoni and a decade later he was playing against Dhoni’s team. Today, playing in his seventh IPL match for the Rajasthan Royals, he finally scored his first IPL fifty.
The 17-year-old had already made a mark with the Rajasthan Royals in this season of the IPL with a 31-ball 47 and 29-ball 43 – against Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians respectively. He was unable to make a fifty in either of the games but he helped his side record victories in both the matches.
Parag, who was the last player to get picked in the auction for IPL 2019 last December, became the third youngest player to feature in IPL when he made his debut against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in Jaipur. Three weeks into the tournament, he has already impressed everyone in his team including Australia’s Steve Smith with his batting at the nets. And now after two 40s he finally got his well-deserved half-century.
As the Rajasthan Royals batted first in their game against the Delhi Capitals today, they kept losing wickets from one end but Parag stood strong and scored a commendable 50 off 49 before getting dismissed by Trent Boult. A few days back the youngster expressed how he believes that he has learned to work under pressure. And today he proved his statement to be true.
Following his brilliant innings, Twitter broke out with praises for the little prodigy. Fans and experts of the game applauded his innings and his nerve at this little age. His first fifty might have taken some time but the way he made it happen was totally worth the wait.
