Who would have thought that a fruit from the Pakistan Super League, by the name of Fakhar Zaman, would go on to steal the limelight at a major ICC event? Even in the final match of the round-robin league, the four semi-finalists of the tournament is not decided yet as Pakistan and Sri Lanka is currently fighting for the last berth of the Champions Trophy.

A man named Fakhar Zaman came in and played a blinder of a knock, coming in place of the more reputed Ahmed Shehzad, to steal the show against a quality opponent such as South Africa. Michael Vaughan was quick to tweet his appreciation of the knock by asking the Pakistan think tank about where they were hiding the explosives from Zaman all the while.

At a time when the people of Pakistan where questioning the stature of the side when compared to other countries, especially after the humiliating loss against their arch rivals, the young brigade of men in green have stood up while giving a ray of hope to their masses that they would witness their side, battling it out in the semi-finals against the home team.

Fakhar Zaman played a blinder of a cameo which eventually made the difference along with the one of Shoaib Malik, which helped Pakistan overhaul the Proteas by the assistance of DLS method and rain. He scored 31 at a rapid pace when he was an unknown commodity from Pakistan Super League no one knew of. Striking at a rate of 134, he smashed five boundaries.

Today, eying a spot at the semi-finals, he took his side to a position from where they are expected to win easily over Sri Lanka. He scored his maiden half-century in One-Day cricket and ensured that there are many more to come. Earlier in the day, the pace trio of Pakistan brought back time when Waqar, Wasim and Shoaib Akhtar used to terrorise opponents with their pace and swing. One can only hope that Hassan Ali, Mohammad Asif and Junaid Khan take over their role in the coming years of Cricket
