Twitter reacts to Nehra jee's inclusion in the T20I squad against Australia
While some were looking forward to watching ‘Nehra Ji’ back in action, others raised questions if Nehra was fit enough.
As the Indian selectors announced the team for the three T20Is against Australia last night, Ashish Nehra was a surprise inclusion in the squad. The veteran was last seen in action during the T20I series against England earlier this year and has been completely off the radar since. While there has never been a question over his form, it’s the fitness concerns that Nehra has struggled with and was the only hindrance for his selection.
Having missed the T20 Internationals against Windies and Sri Lanka due to an injury, he was recalled for the series against the Aussies. The 38-year-old is now expected to lead the bowling attack that comprises of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya.
A professional player is someone who keeps trying his best even when the odds are against him. Nehra has redefined that perception time and again in the last two years that T20 is only an arena for the youngsters. Going around the stumps, his cutters, slower balls and clever use of short balls have given the opposition batsmen, a run for their money whether it has been the international arena or in the IPL.
In India’s Asia Cup T20 triumph last year, Nehra was significant with 6 wickets at a stupendous average of 16.50. He continued his splendour form in the World T20 at home where he got 5 wickets at a decent bowling average of 22 and an exceptional economy rate of just 6. Even in the second T20 against England this year, Nehra had figures of 3/28 with wickets of Ben Stokes, Jason Roy and Sam Billings.
Twitter was taken by surprise as they weren’t expecting his name in the squad. While some were looking forward to watching ‘Nehra Jee’ back in action, others raised questions if he was fit enough. Some felt that it was a backward step and a youngster should’ve been preferred.
