Virat Kohli closely missed out on a hundred at the Eden Gardens as he was dismissed for 92 runs. It seemed like he was all set on his way to 31st hundred before being outdone by Nathan Coulter Nile. While he didn’t score a six, he hit eight boundaries in his innings.
Earlier in the day, it was skipper Virat Kohli who won the toss as India elected to bat first. While India had an unchanged XI from the last game, Australia made two changes. James Faulkner made way for Kane Richardson while Ashton Agar replaced Adam Zampa.
India lost Rohit Sharma early and that’s when captain Virat Kohli stepped into the crease and led from the front. He and Ajinkya Rahane put up a scintillating 102 run partnership for the second wicket. Virat Kohli went on to score his 46th half century in One Day Internationals as he exhibited some sensational batting throughout.
While Rahane got out soon after scoring a half crntury, Kohli continued to bat brilliantly. After Manish Pandey failed again, he combined with Kedhar Jadhav for a 55 run partnership from 49 balls. He was then joined by MS Dhoni. For a moment, it seemed Kohli was all set for another hundred but that’s when he got bowled by Nathan Coulter Nile.
The crowd sprung upon silence as even commentator Harsha Bhogle spoke about how rare it was to watch Kohli being dismissed in the 90s. Anyways, it was a top innings from the swashbuckling batsman as he rescued India from the early slump. His innings of 92 was only the sixth occasion of him being dismissed in the nervous nineties.

5th time Virat Kohli crosses 50 runs against Australia in last 7 ODI's probably his most favorite side after Sri Lanka…

Well played Kohli. Very rare we see him getting out in 90s and that too bowled. Still IND has a good chance. 270 would be enough.

Kohli has been quite even-handed in his ODI runouts. He's been involved in 23 of them, 11 times he's gone, the other 12, his partner's gone

You have to give it to Kohli for navigating through a couple of testing spells early on and compiling another substantial score.
