Before the start of India-New Zealand clash, Mithali Raj and her team were in a spot of bother, after losing their winning momentum in the last couple of matches. From number two on the table, India Women’s team dropped two places to number four, due to their losses in recent matches against Australia and South Africa. With the objective of winning against White Ferns today, Mithali Raj lost the toss but gave a firm reply to the Kiwis with yet another century in ODI Cricket. Veda Krishnamurthy also played her part with her quickfire innings.
The Indian team was precariously placed at 21-2, losing there in form openers, Poonam Raut and Smriti Mamdhana cheaply, However, Mithali Raj played yet another memorable innings under pressure, along with the help of Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy. India managed to put on 265 runs powered by Raj’s 109. Harmanpreet Kaur took India out of trouble with her knock of 60 runs, smashing seven b0undaries in her inning.
Veda Krishnamurthy entertained one and all with her explosive knock of 70 off just 45 balls. She scored her runs at a strike rate of 155, smashing seven boundaries and two sixes. Raj recently overtook Charlotte Edwards tally of runs in ODI cricket and also scaled the 6000 ODI run mark. She is presently the highest run getter in Women’s ODI Cricket.
Twitteratti was set ablaze as people started to compare her stature with the likes of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. That said, the feminists’ strata of the community wanted one and all to know about Mithali’s individualism and that her stature cannot be compared to men. In short, people wanted to rephrase the slogan from ‘Virat or Sachin of Women’s Cricket’ with ‘Mithali Raj of Cricket’. Let us look at the various tweets which hail the contribution of Raj in Indian Cricket.
