Murali Vijay hasn’t had the best of times in India’s ongoing five-match Test series against England. He could muster only 26 runs, combining two innings, in the first Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. He has been one of India’s most consistent batsman at the top of the order and hence was given another opportunity to make amends at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Nevertheless, his campaign has gone from bad to worse as he managed to bag a pair at the ‘Home of Cricket’. In the first innings, fast bowler James Anderson churned out a venomous delivery, which shaped away enough to cannon into the woodwork. Subsequently, the right-handed batsman perished for a duck and was shell-shocked by Anderson’s stupendous outswinger.

Vijay slumps to Anderson once again

After Chris Woakes, Jonny Bairstow and the other English batsmen piled on India’s despair, Vijay had the responsibility to pull his team out of the precarious position. The Brits put on a massive lead of 289 runs after which the Tamil Nadu-born batsman and KL Rahul opened the batting. However, Vijay couldn’t play more than eight deliveries and became Anderson’s first victim of the innings.

Horror of horrors, he was unable to open his account and managed to bag a pair at the ‘Home of Cricket’. Anderson dished out a ball which shaped in and the batter tried to defend it. Nevertheless, the ball jagged back prodigiously to take Vijay’s inside-edge. Jonny Bairstow, the wicketkeeper didn’t have much difficulty to grasp the ball, much to the delight of the home team.

Yet again, the visiting team lost their first wicket after failing to add a single run on the board. Meanwhile, the moment was a proud one for Anderson as he picked up his 100th Test wicket at the venue. Moreover, he accomplished 550 wickets in the longest format of the sport. In the meantime, Twitter roasted Vijay for another lacklustre show with the bat.
