The fifth Super 4 match of the Asia Cup between India and Afghanistan turned out to be a heart-racing thriller as the match ended in a tie. Rashid Khan defended seven runs off the final over to restrict the Indians from their fifth victory in a row. Swashbuckling opening batsman Mohammad Shahzad’s fifth ODI century helped the Afghans post 252 runs in their fifty overs.
Mohammad Nabi’s half-century lower down the order injected impetus into the innings. KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu put on a 110-run stand after which the Afghan bowlers curbed the Indian batters. Ravindra Jadeja’s wicket off Rashid Khan pulled the curtains down on the match. In the meantime, the umpiring standards during the clash turned out to be a tad below par.
Umpires make some horrendous mistakes
En route his century, Shahzad was once given caught-behind after which the batsman took the review, Replays showed that the leather brushed his shoulders on its way to the keeper. India had to pay a heavy price owing to the indifferent umpiring. Part-time off-break bowler trapped Indian captain MS Dhoni and the umpire raised his finger without much of a hesitation.
However, India didn’t have a review left and hence, Dhoni had to walk back. In the 40th over, Dinesh Karthik was adjudged Leg Before Wicket (LBW). However, later it was shown that the ball would have effortlessly missed the stumps by a fair margin. Even Karthik stood at the pitch in utter bewilderment, looking at the on-field umpire, and eventually had to make the walk back.
The decisions turned out to be pivotal in the context of the match as Dhoni’s men couldn’t have the last laugh. Most of the decisions came from Gregory Brathwaite. In the meantime, Twitter is highly dissatisfied with the poor level of umpiring.

@ICC @BCCI ICC please appoint good umpires for the match, such naive umpires ruins the result of the game. As we saw yesterday 2 very poor decisions from the on field umpire. I knw it happens but that was so obvious that both were missing leg stump.

Reason for yesterday's draw #INDvsAFG
1. Poor umpiring
2. DRS taken by @klrahul11 @ICC @BCCI should take some action against the worst umpires.— Siddharth Singh (@linkinsunny) September 26, 2018

India did not win because of umpiring error only umpires won the match.

Umpiring has been worst in this #AsiaCup2018 , should not @ACCMedia1 brings elite umpires?! Or there should 2 reviews in every innings of an ODI, 2 while batting,2 while fielding for a team. in the match #INDvAFG there are 2 bad lbw are given which were clearly missed wicket,

How come @ICC doesn't make its Umpires accountable for their wrong decisions which could make a team loose a winning game ?
Why not Umpires check their decisions through third Umpire ?— Manoj Saini (@15jcmanoj) September 26, 2018
Congrats to @ACBofficials for a great game yesterday. However, one has to admit that they got lucky with the umpiring. MoM – Umpires.#INDvAFG

Yesterday match showed the strength of Team India's reserve players who played well against Afghanistan. Some bad lucks today in the form of lbw decesions and 3rd umpires decesion on boundary in the last over which was actually a six. #AsiaCup2018 #INDvAFG

It is not the question of who is suffering and who is not …it is a question of simple poor umpiring which spoils the whole game … the 6 Jadeja hit last over with 7 to go would have sealed the match when again Umpires caught napping !
— @AroopDatta (@AroopDatta) September 26, 2018
Again pathetic Umpiring !!! #ICC is sleeping instead of raising the standard of Umpiring they are bringing in sub standard Umpires in such important prestigious Tournaments !

@ICC @ICCMediaComms why you are not taking action against the #poor decisions from the umpires

@ICC as we watching there are many wrong decisions for LBW by Umpires in Asia Cup and batsman facing loss,I hope ICC will take appropriate actions…
— Sajjad Ur Rehman (@SAJJADMSUR) September 26, 2018
It's time to @ICC to get serious and time to look into the umpiring standards. The umpires (barring 2-3) in this ongoing #AsiaCup2018 were poor. Too many false decisions…..
