The retirement of Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir from all forms of cricket might have broken a lot of hearts. After he stepped down as Delhi Capitals’, then Daredevils, and subsequently being sidelined from the eleven, it was pretty evident that his career wasn’t heading in the right direction. The fact that he was released by the franchise manifested the fact even more.
Nevertheless, he came back to the domestic circuit and wielded his magic with the bat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 37-year-old not only led Delhi to the final against Mumbai at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore but also managed to score big with the bat in hand. The experienced campaigner also played brilliantly in the first two matches in this year’s Ranji Trophy.
Gambhir shows his magic
Earlier this month, he came out of the blues and decided to call it quits and currently he is plying his trade in his last competitive match for Delhi against Andhra at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. Gambhir hasn’t let his fans down by any means in the farewell match. After Delhi won the toss and opted to field first, Andhra racked up 390 courtesy of Ricky Bhui’s knock of 187 runs.
Thereafter, Gambhir starting wielding the willow to good effect and got his team off to a superlative start. He cobbled a partnership of 108 with Hiten Dalal, who scored 58 runs. He carried on the good work with skipper Dhruv Shorey as well. At the close of play on the second day, Gautam Gambhir was not out on 92 runs from 154 balls with as many as eight boundaries to his name.
He would’ve had butterflies in his stomach as he was eight runs short of a century. However, he didn’t let the situation get the better of him. The left-hander didn’t encounter any hiccup and comfortably scored his century on the third day’s morning. In the meantime, Twitter is happy for the veteran and the supporters showered him with accolades and appreciation for the knock.
Here is how Twitter bowed down to Gambhir’s masterclass
