The third Test between India and England is currently underway in Nottingham at the visitors have been put into bat first. This is the must-win encounter for them and no wonder their top-order fared well in the first hour. Indian players also sported black armbands as a mark of respect for the former India captain Ajit Wadekar who passed away on Wednesday. However, Michael Holding took a jibe at them and made fun of the team over the same which Twitter didn’t like at all.
Wadekar was the leader of the pack when the Asian giants won their first-ever series in England back in 1971 and was one of the most respected cricketers in the fraternity. The Indian team had also observed two minutes of silence before starting the training on Thursday in Nottingham.
Meanwhile, Holding is the commentator in the ongoing Test match and while doing so, he mocked the Indian team. “Indian players are wearing the black band not because they are 0-2 down,” he said while commentating for Sky Sports and then informed the viewers about the real reason which has irked the Indian fans. They felt that he insulted the visitors who are the number 1 Test team in the world and lashed out at him for his comments.
India struggling at lunch
Despite the good start provided by the openers, Team India is currently struggling at 82/3. Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul stitched 60 runs for the first wicket and then it was all Chris Woakes. He first nipped out the former who was looking good on 35 and then foxed his partner with a delivery which prodigiously came back and hit him plumb in front of the stumps.
However, Cheteshwar Pujara endured a shocker of a dismissal as he pulled at a short delivery off the same bowler only to perfectly find Adil Rashid at the deep fine-leg to hand over a session for the opposition.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Michael Holding is an insensitive biased prick. #ENGvIND

Very unfortunate jibe from #MichaelHolding…trying to be funny can take its own toll. I have seen "funny guys" suffer for making a quip too many.

Dear Michael Holding,
How does it felt when our Captain scored a double ton, a 3-match-old young lad scored a triple ton and an all-rounder who is no more a part of our tours scored a century against your team when they toured to India last time? Did they put on black armbands?— DIVYANSHU🏏 (@MSDivyanshu) August 18, 2018
