After all the speculations surrounding the nature of the pitch at the new Perth Stadium, the match between Australia and India got underway. Even as Virat Kohli and Co were brimming with confidence following their stupendous victory by 31 runs at the popular Adelaide Oval, the home team couldn’t get over the line after getting their opponents on the mat quite a few times.
From a personal perspective, Kohli didn’t have the greatest of outings in the first encounter. He wasn’t at his very best by any means and went a wee bit into his shell. However, in the ongoing match, he seemed to back at his stupendous best, albeit he displayed the same in the outfield. In the first ball of the 55th over, he took a superlative catch to dismiss Peter Handscomb.
Kohli pulls off the unfathomable
After Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch took Australia to an incredible start with a 112-run stand, Tim Paine’s men lost their way a tad. The Indian bowlers reduced them to 134/4 in the 49th over and Handscomb joined the experienced Shaun Marsh, who is playing on his homeground, in the middle. Nevertheless, he could only score seven runs from 16 deliveries.
In the first ball of the 55th over, fast bowler Ishant Sharma dished out a short delivery and the batsman tried to steer the ball over the slip cordon. The leather sped off the bat at the rate of knots, but Kohli managed to halt its surge. The 30-year-old leaped up and stuck his right hand out. Fortunately, the ball didn’t elude his fingers and Handscomb was left dumbstruck.
The catch was an example of presence of mind and fast reflexes. At that point in time, Australia needed a partnership to get their innings back on the track. To their dismay, they lost their fourth wicket after getting themselves to a position of command. In the meantime, Twitter couldn’t stop heaping praises on Kohli for his masterful display in the outfield.

Surely you can’t compare Khawaja’s catch with Kohli’s… both great grabs but Usman’s was far superior! #7cricket
